Following a rearranged fixture due to Exeter Athletic having too many injuries (Apparantly) Honiton Dimonds travelled over the hill to Taunton for a tough fixture with their large and skill-full squad.
Honiton kicked off and there was an ominous start with Taunton offloading through some good Honiton tackling, until eventually one of their best players sprinted in for an early try. We kept our heads up getting the attack going with all the forwards working hard recycling the ball through the phases, the backs making some good runs, leading to our loose forwards breaking through and scoring tries. All the boys defended desperately against some big skillful players from Taunton, with the effort being rewarded with a lead at the break. After half time the forwards kept up the effort in the rucks, we won some tight head scrums and the backs continued to keep their heads despite aggressive defence to make make some more penetrating runs. Combined with more scramble defence and great tackling it was scoreless for almost all the third quarter. The Honiton boys kept giving 100% and so started to ease away with 4 late tries to none, including a great interception and length of the field run by one of our new players Aiden DL. Final result went to Honiton. This week MOTM went to Adam for his all-round effort and attitude while Tries from Marcus, Josh, Leon and Aiden sealed the win.
Great hospitality and spirit from Taunton who in particular defended well as a team.
