Withycombe v Honiton

Honiton received the kick off but the ball was spilled when it seemed Rob Price was taken out in the air but with play waived on the home side were awarded a penalty, fortunately it went wide.
The away side were struggling to get out of their half in the first ten minutes and were penalised for offside giving Withycombe good field position in the Honiton twenty two. A second penalty for offside in front of the posts saw the home side opt for a scrum rather than a shot at the posts. This backfired when they were pushed off the ball and Honiton cleared.
They got the ball agonisingly close to the opponents try line but unfortunately were penalised for holding on.
With either side unable to break the deadlock Honiton moved the ball upfield and Jack Madge was judged to have knocked on over the line. Another penalty conceded for being offside saw Withycombe clear the line.
Honiton had a first kickable penalty and Ben Phillips obliged to give the Ton a 0-3 lead after 31 minutes.
Steve Smart was shown a yellow card for a professional foul and Withycombe kicked the ball deep into the Honiton twenty two, they fortunately knocked the ball forward in the line out and although Honiton won the scrum but knocked the ball on. Withycombe couldn’t take advantage of the extra man and Honiton cleared.
Halftime
Honiton kicked off the second half and in the first minute they were awarded a penalty Ben Phillips repeated his first half effort and extended the Honiton lead to 0-6.
The lead was further extended when Rob Price got the first try of the game when he forced his way over close to the posts, Ben Phillips converted 0-13 after 45 minutes.
Withycombe were struggling to cope with Honiton pack and the away side had territorial advantage but handling mistakes slowed their progress.
Honiton were awarded another penalty and Ben Phillips was on hand again to slot the kick 0-16.
A mistake at the back of the scrum saw the Withycombe scrum half pounce on a loose ball to get their first try of the match, it was converted making the score 7-16 after 62 minutes.
With a succession of penalties conceded by the Ton it was inevitable that Withycombe would get another try, it was again converted 14-16.
With another penalty conceded again under controversial circumstances Withycombe kicked the winning penalty with the last action of the game as the referee blew the final whistle.
