Evening all and I trust you are all well in these difficult times! Unfortunately it seems like there is no let-up in the Orange man’s madness…Given how he runs things you can’t but wonder about the IQ of the Americans who voted for him . I’m sorry if you like him but in my opinion, the untold damage he is doing to the world’s stability is more than a tad worrying. Completely un-statesman like in my opinion and if I just said “look what the idiot has done now” , unfortunately for him 90% of normal people would know exactly who I was talking about. He is a CAUC … Ask me about what that stands for when you next see me, I use it a lot and I’m afraid it’s a tad rude . Unfortunately this America situation has gone way beyond funny now.
Anyway, I’m not a political analyst or nuffing so I’ll stop there and move on to talk about local rugby.. and in particular “woz on down at Tonsville”.
Saturday, the sun was out as we welcomed our club Volunteers who’d come for lunch. As mentioned last week the President of the RFU Paul Harris attended as well and he was good at mingling with several members of the club and it was just nice to think we’re not totally forgotten up this end of East Devon… I did manage to get in my usual quote of “we play rugby at this level despite the RFU and not because of them”. It’s clear he’s on our side as far as “grass roots” rugby is concerned. One other good thing did come out of this was the fact Dave Vallander was introduced to the Devon Facilities Secretary, so I’m sure he will be badging him for support with his various “big ideas” projects he’s looking at.
We then had a small matter of a revenge game against near rivals Withycombe. I had a good chat before and after the game with their officials who I have known since playing days many moons ago. As for the game, a bit nip n tuck for 20 minutes or so but you could clearly see we had the fire power and we got to half time a comfortable 18-6 up. As we turned around to play up the field in the second period we really took complete control. We defended very well and then scored several good tries as their heads dropped and we ran out comfortable winners by 45-6 and guess what? Some praise form me about the ref! Really I hear you say…. but credit where credit was due, he was good and he was unnoticeable which I assure you is a complement for referees at our level.
So on to Sunday and the sun was out again! what is going on! Our Tens had a three way game at Teignmouth which Exeter Athletic joined and I’m pleased to say we won all of the 4 games we played. The 7’s and 8’s played Topsham and both games were competitive. It was tight in the 9’s game against the Tops and unfortunately for the 11’s their game was called off on Saturday. The 12’s just lost a narrow one against them away as did the 13’s but as Topsham are one of the better teams in this division our boys did very well with the score line as it was a close run thing. The 14’s didn’t have a game and the 15’s also lost to Topsham but again it was a narrow loss and the big plus was we had 28 players which is great news for this age group.
Some good news… if your down on the field of dreams you will notice that on the roof of the club there are some solar panels… they aren’t wired up yet but that’s being done next week.
Some notices…. The Annual Dinner and dance Is on the 16th May out at Cranberries which is in Killington just outside Axminster. Tickets are £40 a head and transport from Honiton will be arrange. Everyone from the club is welcome Juniors seniors partners and any guest you want to invite. It’s a good night and a chance to celebrate the season with a dinner, awards and a bit of moosic and dancing as well. If you like to come Finn Parratt is your man his number is 07939223 to book your tickets.
Saturday we have a double home. Unfortunately the planned lunch is off but it will still be a tad busy, The Ones are playing OPM’s we had a good win against them as we came back from being behind at half time. They had some large fellows if memory serves me correct and weren’t that bad. The twos have a tough game against Barnstaple but we’re all at home and we can then watch the international which is Wales v Scotland. England play on Sunday I’ve booked the sofa for that one.
Sundays lots of games at home. The 13’s play Torquay at home as do the 7’s, 9’s and 11’s who are playing Chard. Then the 15’s play OPM at home and the 14’s are also playing at home but at 1pm against Newton Abbot. The 8’s 10’s and 12 are all away at Chard.
That’s it for this week so #UTT
