Woz On? by Jerry Rice

Evening all…

Woz on ….. well, no home Senior rugby again last weekend, Storm Darragh put paid to that. We did do a pitch inspection on Saturday morning and the pitches were fine but with the council saying “don’t travel unless you really have to”, oppositions were just not going to come. At first I thought what’s the fuss it’s only a bit of wind? Who ever heard of a game being cancelled because of that!? but as the day went on things got worse and reality was, it was the right decision and as it turned out there were no games in our league that were played at all. I will add, when we were trying to stand up doing the pitch inspection, we actually saw a large branch fall off the tree above the Pavillion and on closer inspection we saw it had done a lot of damage to the fencing around the kids park.

Big shame all-round as we had a double home and the Coombe Estates sponsors lunch, which would have been a good bar take. Hey ho, can’t argue with nature. The game has been rearranged for 25th January.

By Sunday the wind had eased a bit. We had a late call from Exmouth to say all their home games were off. We were a bit miffed with this as the decision was made very late and several teams were already in transit. All a bit strange as we are only up the road from them and all our games at home were all on and we were playing Exmouth!? I managed to find five minutes and went up and watch several of the team in action. We came out on top in most of the ones I saw and I enjoyed the 15’s victory over Bridport. From what I could see the club house was the busiest it’s been in a while and the reality was, it was packed as it always is on Sundays now adays! Great to see and our Juniors are thriving.

What else? …We had our monthly committee meeting this week, usual stuff “no money, not enough time for hard pressed volunteers to make improvements etc etc, as I say, the usual stuff….. but…. some good news was announced! We are always looking for possible grants and other funding streams and I’m pleased to say that this searching has paid off. Dave Vallender and Lou Beekin’s application for a grant to put Solar panels on the roof has been accepted. This will help us greatly with our Electric bills and we can now say, we are also doing our bit re the carbon foot print. Big thanks to them and of course all the others who chipped in with gathering the info required for our bid.

There are other bids in for other pots of money and we are hopeful we might get something from them and if successful we can start projects to help improve playing rugby at Allhallows.

Also a big thanks to Stig at CMC motors who has given us a very generous donation, we will use the money wisely…. and again, another big thanks to Ally’s Kebabs for their kind and generous donation. All helps keep us going .

So… rugby this weekend….. still no Senior Rugby at the field of dreams as the ones have a tricky trip down to Plymouth to play Tamar Sarries, we beat them comfortably at home but it will be a test this week as there is a wedding this weekend and several of the players are going to it! The two’s are also on the road as well as they travel up to Bideford for their game.

Then there is another busy Sunday planned at the Ton, On the top pitch against Noth Petherton we have the 11’s and 12’s and on the bottom we have the 7, 8’s 9’s who are all playing Sarries. Following those games we have our bigger lads in action in the 14’s and 15’s. Our only away side this week is the 13’s who travel to North Petherton.

That’s it for this week.
