Woz On by Jerry Rice

Evenin all and Woz on?

Think I’m getting a bit obsessed by the mad orange man and weirdly I sort of feel deprived if he or his cronies haven’t done something stupid everyday… I would say his activities are often really funny if it wasn’t for the fact that he is very dangerous for the rest of the world. You can’t believe the Americans can’t see him for what he is…I would do a list but this a rugby blog…

So… rugby it is then… several of the Ton massive drove down to watch the game against Plymouth Argaum who play their rugby to the North of Plymouth on a pitch that’s situated on the start of Dartmoor. A bit desolate and several of us were reminiscing about the horrendous conditions the last time we visited. It was much better this time but there was still a keen wind blowing straight down the field which we ran into in the first half.
It was an interesting game and the opposition belied their “bottom of the league” tag to make a game of it and after 20 minutes they were 10-7 up courtesy of the many penalties we seemed to give away and which allowed them to hoof the ball down field using the keen wind. We did get things back on track and scored a couple of very good tries which went through several pairs of hands. Halftime came and we clearly had the bit between the teeth and again scored a couple quick very good entertaining tries. Unfortunately we got on the wrong side of the ref and lost two men to the sin bin and things didn’t look that good as they scored again but we weathered the storm and came back strongly and eventually ran out comfortable winners by 47-17. A good win on the road and we did sore some good tries and went home with the expected 5 points.

No second team game so it was on to Sunday and from the web reports looks like there was some good games played but I would like to mention the under10’s as they represented Devon in the Somerset under 10’s Festival and guess what? They only went and won in absolutely dominant style winning all 7of their games most of which were without conceding tries and there’s a great picture of them with the cup held high and medals a plenty. It’s all on the Facebook forum if you want a butchers. Congrats to all involved. Another shout out goes to the 13’s who played a 26 strong squad from Sarries who are a team our boys have never beaten and despite the size of the opposition we hung in there and got a close win by 6 tries to 5. Well done boys.

Some good news to all… Corrie visited Anne and she is defiantly on the mend and she even hopes to be back sorting our food for next season.

So this weekend…it’s a biggy as we have to play our catch up game away to Sarries and it’s all set up for a big finish to this season. Obviously Torquay are the runaway leaders but a second place is definitely up for grabs and depending on results in the leagues above, it looks like the team that finishes second could also be promoted.
This is the situation…. Devonport (who have one game left against us at the Fortress in a fortnights time) have 83 points, having played 21 games. We are second with 79 points with two games left and Sarries (who are our opposition this Saturday) have 73 points and also have two games left. So simple facts are we just need to win both games and we finish second but both are tough opposition so we’ve got to have our game heads on.
If you’re about on Saturday we’d love your support down at Sarries it’s only 15 minutes down the road and a good crowd of rowdy away supporters will help hugely.

Sunday it’s Mothering Sunday so there are no Junior games at all and rightly so, This means everyone has no excuse not to pamper their mums .

That’s it for this week
