Woz On? by Jerry Rice

Evenin all, trust your keeping well and …Woz on?

Not going to moan about weather this week as the hurricanes’ in Florida seems to “top trump” our weather. I know we always have wet pitch problems with winter but it does just seem to be earlier and earlier that the ground gets soft. One piece of good news is the fact that Chris Baily has spent the summer sorting out a “training” pitch up at his place and when the clocks go back most of the juniors will be training up there. What a generous offer and this will be a great help for our over used filed.

Chiefs ain’t going that well at the mo but early days I guess.

On to last Saturday… as you know there was no game for the Ones as they did the double header the week before. Our next round in the cup is in February, We are apparently away to Old Public Oaks who are currently top of the league above us…bring it on I say!.

So, on to the Twoes…. They went up to Ilfracombee which is one hell of a round trip, to be precise, it’s 140miles there and back! Thanks again to Joe Keep and Bradleys for organising the mini bus. Now, from memory of years gone by, we have always had problems taking teams to play them as availability was difficult, in fact we used to have a name for people who were not available for thistrip,it was called Ilfracombeitis. So… with this in mind we were struggling a bit but unlike the last few years, we went and hats off to those who did it was a tough gig.

On to the game… unfortunately our bragging right of being unbeaten have now gone as we went down by 24-7. The score suggest we gave a good account of our selves and we were only 12-7 down at the turn around. Unfortunately we had a couple of injuries in the second period and I will mention James Ashby as he had to leave the field with a dislocated shoulder, we wish him a speed recovery. Anyway they scored a couple of tries to our none and that was that… still credit to all who went and we are still top of the league. Can you imagine living in Ilfracombe and being keen on rugby, you’ve got to do some serious travelling to get gametime.

Ok on to Sunday… it was as busy as Mr Busy on a busy day down at Tonsville. Near neighbours Exeter Sarries were the opposition both home and away. A mixed bag of results, in some of the games we were dominant and in some age groups Sarries were very strong. Most of the results and reports and pictures are on the clubs website and face ache. I must just say a big thanks to Tanya for running the bar last Sunday as our Junior Chair couldn’t help as he went to Exeter with the under 7s. Standout performances and all winning, were the 9s, 10s, 11s 12s and 14s. The 15’s had a tough day at the office losing by a few scores down at their place… hey ho, get back in the saddle and start again next week.

So what’s happened this week … we had a committee meeting, usual things, hard pressed volunteers, no money and no time to get things done. But it was well attended and very positive. From some of the reports and/or action points it does show that poor old Chirs our chair seems to have no choice but to embroiled with the trials and tribulations of council and town politics. Still… we all feel there’s no better man to do it on our behalf. Rest assured he is fighting our corner.

Ok… This weekend….on Saturday … the Twos have a weekend off to lick wounds and the Ones resume action with a long away trip to newly promoted Dartmouth. They’ve found the step up a tad hard so far and have had a couple of tough results but I says “don’t count yer chickens.” “we still have to turn up to get the points”. I think the Ones are taking a mini bus, kick off is at 3pm.. mind, everyone seems to just change it to 2.30 which shouldn’t happen until the clock goes back, never did back in the day!!

On Sunday at home on the top pitch we have a combined 7s&8s against Crewkerne (not sure we’ve played them before at Junior level, have we?) kick off is at 9.30am and then the 13’s play them at 11am. On the bottom pitch also against Crewkerne we have our 10s, 11’s both play at 9.30 then our 14’s take on North Petherton at 11am.

The under 12’s are away at Paignton at 10am and the 15’s are at Crewkerne at 11am.

That’s about it for this week..
