Honiton came away from Plymouth with a hard earned victory.
Honiton had most of the play in the early stages and after 15 minutes James Coutts Tucker crossed the line for the first try of the match, Ben Phillips duly converted. 0-7
The match then became evenly balanced with both sides making errors but neither team really taking advantage of them. There were some good breakaway runs and plenty of scrums but both defences held strong until after 35 minutes Saracens kicked an easy penalty in front of the posts 3-7
On the stroke of halftime Josh Rice was given a yellow card for a raised forearm
HT 3-17
The second half started with Honiton in a more determined mood as their ears were still ringing from the coaches messages to stick to basics and stop giving away penalties. Tamar obviously didn’t get this message as in the space of 12 minutes Ben Phillips kicked three penalties. One of these penalties resulted in a yellow card for a Tamar player for a deliberate knock on 3-16
This spurred Tamar on and after 65 minutes managed to score a converted try 10-16
A few minutes after kickoff, Jonny House also received a yellow card for a deliberate knock on
Despite being a man down, Honiton took control and after 75 minutes, Josh Rice scored the try of the match, picking up from the base of a scrum and forcing his way over from 10 yards.
Saracens were clearly unhappy about this and went into attack mode and were able to score a decent converted try just before the end of the match.
Full time 17-23
A close match in the end and a deserved victory for Honiton
Alfie Lang was deservedly awarded Honiton's Man of the Match for his strong carries, making decent yards every time.
