The Dimonds entertained North Petherton at the weekend and with conditions a little better than the last meet. (Match abandoned at halftime)
‘How big’ and ‘how many ‘ were the words which kept being banded about prior to the kick off , however The Dimonds with their new pre match format seemed ready, although a bit quiet.
Early on it was N.P who dominated the play, with their back row giving our forwards plenty to think about, and wasn’t long before they opened the scoring with a breakaway opportunity involving the backs down the hill for a try . Honiton dug deep and responded with 2 tries after powerful runs from Marcus cut through the oppositions defence, however it was N.P who had the upper hand at the break after the Dimonds let in an easy 5 points on the whistle. At the turn around and with the slope in Honiton’s advantage it was still anyone’s game, but it was N.P who benefitted from their forward replacements, giving extra punching power and forcing 3 tries in quick succession. However usual TON resilience continued, fighting back and managing to clinch the final score of the Match to close the gap in the scores somewhat at the whistle.
A tough day for the boys, which was always going to be the case facing a large and deep opposition but with some great rugby played
Awards this week went to Leon for his work in defence and Rudy in only his 2nd match picking up MOTM for his contribution in the pack against a formidable opposition
First round of the Cup next week with the Dimonds visiting Exmouth . Can’t wait ……….
